Properties of Materials with Hierarchical and Fractal Microstructure: Theory and Experiment

Fractal patterns have fascinating features from the theoretical viewpoint. One can also expect that properties of materials with such patterns are very different from those with "regular" (e.g. periodic) microstructure. Such new effects were indeed predicted theoretically and found in experiments. The next step is identifying potential applications for manufacturing of new materials which is one of the goals of this minisymposium.

This minisymposium will bring together representatives of both theoretical and experimental groups to transfer problems, ideas and methods from one community to another so as to enhance further progress in the understanding of this class of materials.
