This minisymposium focuses on mathematical descriptions of grain boundaries and interfaces in multiphase material systems. Grain boundaries and interfaces are of fundamental importance in modeling strength, electrical and magnetic properties of alloys, thin film behavior and the kinetics of phase transformations.
The speakers will explore the problems associated with grain boundaries and interfaces by discussing state-of-the-art experiments and mathematical modeling. The session is intended for both material scientists and mathematicians working on problems in multiphase materials or phase transitions.
