Numerical methods implemented as software tools are extensively used in all areas of the geosciences. Traditionally, such tools were implemented as stand-alone codes for a limited set of applications. More recently, modern techniques for developing software have led to the development of problem solving environments allowing a user to utilize the best tools available for different applications.
This minisymposium will focus on modern software techniques as applied to mathematical models of porous media flow. The speakers will discuss progress in the development of simulator environments for problems arising in the modeling of groundwater flow, oil reservoir flow and chemical reactors.
