Chaos, Coherence and Control: The Frontier for
Spatio-Temporal Dynamics
Coherent structures lie at the confluence of three fundamental topics in dynamical systems. First, they are ubiquitous in the study of spatio-temporal chaos (STC). Second, they are intrinsically related to reduced, low dimensional representations of formally infinite dimensional systems. Third, coherence is fundamental to the implementation of practical control algorithms in spatio-temporal flows. In this minisymposium, the speakers will discuss inter-relations among chaos, coherence and control and steps toward building a foundation for a more unified theory of STC.
