Dynamical Consequences of System-Symmetry Breaking
This symposium will focus on the effects of system-symmetry-breaking perturbations (forced symmetry-breaking) on bifurcations in equivariant dynamical systems. The aim is to understand the sensitivity of the dynamics of equivariant systems to symmetry-breaking "imperfections". Although a systematic theory is unavailable at this time the speakers will describe specific problems, often motivated by experiments, where system-symmetry-breaking perturbations are responsible for the introduction of global connections (and associated complex dynamics) into systems that would otherwise exhibit relatively simple behavior.
